Previously, Yuen worked as an engineer with the Ministry of Environment after graduating from the National University of Singapore (NUS), before being posted to work for the PUB, Singapore’s national water agency. In 2007, he also served as the International Water Association’s (IWA) regional director for Asia, and engaged top global water leaders and experts in deploying water and sanitation programmes and activities around the region – a period of time he describes as “truly fulfilling”. According to Yuen, “Climate change is the single greatest threat to humanity in modern times, and the impact of climate change on urban water systems cannot be underestimated. We will be examining how cities, utilities and industries manage water stresses by mitigating and adapting to climate change during SIWW 2020.” “An effective approach to build resource resilience would be to embrace the concept of a circular economy, and proliferate the recovery and reuse of precious resources like water, energy and nutrients. In SIWW 2020, we will present case studies of how this has been successfully implemented in different parts of the world.
